Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Te Whare W¨¡naka o Aoraki ÃØÃÜÖ±²¥ University is committed to equity and diversity and seeks to provide a safe, inclusive, respectful and welcoming environment - both physical and digital - in which students and staff are supported towards achieving their full potential.  This includes robust equity, diversity and inclusion strategies with measurable outcomes.

All members of the University community are expected to support equitable access, participation, engagement and success for all staff members and students, including M¨¡ori and those from diverse groups.

Gender Equity Plan 

ÃØÃÜÖ±²¥ University is committed to promoting gender equity. The organisation has dedicated resources, policies and expertise to address gender bias and unconscious bias. Our policies ensure equality for women and minority groups across the student, academic and professional staff community.  We have dedicated resources of a Human Resource team, an Employee Assistance Programme and an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group.

ÃØÃÜÖ±²¥ University staff have access to free training courses on Understanding Unconscious Bias. A Career Development Programme for Women is offered.

We provide gender-disaggregated data on our personnel and students in our Annual Report.

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Steering Group 

The EDI Steering Group is responsible for recommending effective development, establishment and implementation initiatives of best EDI practices across the University. The group reports directly to the Vice-Chancellor with reports of activity provided through the Senior Leadership Team. 

The group is composed of ÃØÃÜÖ±²¥and staff representatives with interest and expertise in the area from across the University.  Chaired by the Executive Director, People, Culture and Wellbeing, membership includes representatives from all three faculties, the Professoriate, Te Tuawhiti, Te Manutaki, Student Experience, LUSA, Te Awhioraki, SPACE and an International ÃØÃÜÖ±²¥member.
